The Johnson & Johnson Burn Treatment Centre at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital is a state-of-the-art unit providing timely and specialized care to adult and paediatric burn patients and increasing the survival rates among critically injured patients in Soweto and surrounding areas.
Since its opening in 1991, the Bara Burns Unit has treated more than 18,000 burn patients, and serves as a teaching center for medical professionals from across Africa including Malawi, DRC, Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Libya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia. Johnson & Johnson supports the facility with essential equipment, products, and education for management and medical personnel.
The centre, which celebrated its 25 anniversary on 3 November 2016, is an example of a successful public private partnership between Johnson & Johnson and Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital which has enabled the community of Soweto and surrounding areas to access state-of-the-art multidisciplinary burn wound care management.
