Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has shot down President Jacob Zuma's proposal that the losing candidate in the ANC presidential race should, by default, become the deputy for the purpose of forging party unity. The crucial leadership election is scheduled to kick off on Saturday at Nasrec, Johannesburg, and the race to succeed Zuma is too close to call.

A 54-year-old man was gunned down in a house robbery in Bramley, Johannesburg, early on Sunday, police said. Spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said three men broke through the back door of the house in Kelvin Road at about 05:15 and shot the man.

Oldest, Most Complete Human Ancestor Fossil Unveiled in South Africa:

Dubbed “Little Foot”, the remarkably complete hominoid skeleton was discovered by a local scientist Ron Clarke in 1994. He found several foot bones in the Sterkfontein caves, about 40 kilometers north-west of Johannesburg as a result of rock blasting by minors.
