In a week in which Indo-African race relations became a focal point, Energy Minister Jeff Radebe appealed to South Africans to unite in their diversity. Radebe joined several hundred people on a 15km social cohesion walk from Phoenix to KwaMashu on Saturday, hoping to help bridge the growing divide between Indians and Africans.
South African electrician Phiwankosi Mkhize was diagnosed with lung cancer in May last year and told by the hospital to come back for a scan in 15 months. The 66-year-old's fate is far from unique in southeastern KwaZulu-Natal province, the country's second most populous.
