Johannesburg: Hyundai Automotive South Africa is celebrating the success of four of its apprentices after they delivered outstanding performances at the 2026 Motus Top Apprentice Awards, with two earning first place at the prestigious ceremony held at Emperors Palace.
Brendan Nortje from Hyundai Durban South and Manolito Fisher from Hyundai N1 City each secured first position in their respective categories, while fellow Suhail Essat from Hyundai Pinetown and Khanyisani Mbutho from Hyundai Durban Central, achieved second and fifth places respectively.
The awards recognize exceptional technical ability, problem-solving skills and workplace performance among apprentices participating in the Motus Apprenticeship Programme, which develops the next generation of qualified motor technicians.
Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa said the achievements highlight the importance of investing in young people.
“South Africa has an incredible pool of young talent. When we invest in skills development and create opportunities for young people to learn, grow and build careers, everyone benefits: our customers and our business. We are incredibly proud of Brendan, Manolito, Suhail and Khanyisani’s achievements.”
Nortje, known among his colleagues as ‘Speedy Gonzalez’ for his efficiency and willingness to help, said the recognition has inspired him to continue striving for excellence.
“Winning this award is a proud moment for me,” he stated. “It shows that the effort you put into learning your trade and delivering quality work every day makes a difference. I am grateful and look forward to growing my career with Hyundai.”
Fisher described the award as a milestone in his journey as a technician. “This recognition has motivated me to keep learning and improving my skills. I want to continue developing so that I can provide the highest level of service to our customers and one day help mentor the next generation of apprentices.”
According to his peers, Fisher approaches every task with confidence and never backs down from a challenge and vowed he will become a role model and mentor for future apprentices entering the industry.
The achievements underscore Hyundai Automotive South Africa’s ongoing goal of developing technical expertise and ensuring its dealer network remains equipped to service technologically-advanced vehicles.
