27 Down and More to Come

15 May 2026 by Con Tributor

Johannesburg: Just a few months ago, Lepas South Africa was a name on the horizon. Today, it is a presence on the road, in driveways, in conversations, and in showrooms across South Africa. With 27 dealerships now fully operational across South Africa, Lepas has done what many said would take years. And it isn’t done yet.

Lepas is a premium automotive brand and has arrived with intention, backed by a dealer network built for the long haul and a South African public that has responded with unmistakable enthusiasm.

Lepas South Africa forms part of Chery Group South Africa, one of the most established and trusted automotive groups operating in the country today. That heritage, infrastructure and depth of experience sits behind every Lepas vehicle and every Lepas dealership. South African customers are not taking a chance on something unknown. They are stepping into a brand built on a foundation of proven excellence.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE BRAND

Every Lepas dealership is more than a showroom. It is a business owned and operated by people who know their communities, understand the roads they drive, and have staked their professional reputation on a brand they believe in.

“What has moved me most through this rollout is the calibre of the people who have chosen to partner with Lepas,” said Jay Jay Botes, General Manager of Lepas and Chery Group South Africa. “These dealers are not passive retailers. They are passionate, invested, and deeply committed to the experience every customer has from the moment they walk through the door. We are proud that Lepas has earned that level of belief and commitment across all 27 dealerships.”

SOUTH AFRICA HAS SPOKEN

The market has responded with conviction. Since the first Lepas showrooms opened their doors, South Africans have shown up informed, engaged and ready. The appetite for a premium vehicle brand that does not ask buyers to compromise on quality, design or aftersales support has proven not just real, but urgent.

“What we are seeing from South African consumers is not just curiosity,” said Jay Jay Botes. “It is confidence. People are walking into our showrooms having done their research. They understand the backing of Chery Group South Africa and what that means for their ownership experience. Our commitment is to make sure every interaction in every showroom lives up to that trust.”

LEPAS CARE AND AFTERSALES SUPPORT

Lepas South Africa’s rapid national expansion is backed by Lepas Care, the brand’s customer-focused ownership and aftersales support programme designed to give customers confidence from day one.

Through the growing dealership network and the backing of Chery Group South Africa, Lepas customers benefit from nationwide servicing, trained technicians, genuine parts support, roadside assistance and mobility support solutions designed to deliver complete peace of mind throughout the ownership journey.

To date, 39 service stations have been appointed nationally, ensuring strong geographic coverage across South Africa. All appointed dealer technicians have been fully trained, with all new dealer technicians receiving training before becoming operational, reinforcing Lepas Care’s commitment to a consistent premium ownership and aftersales experience nationwide.

The Lepas L4 range is sold with a five-year/150 000 km warranty, a five-year/75 000 km service plan, and a 10-year/1 million km engine warranty for first owners, reinforcing the brand’s long-term commitment to customer peace of mind.

Lepas South Africa has also confirmed that the brand’s local product portfolio will continue expanding, with the all-new L6 and L8 set to launch locally in Q2 and Q3 respectively.

27 SHOWROOMS. ONE STANDARD.

Despite the pace of the rollout, Lepas has remained unyielding on quality. Every one of the 27 operational dealerships has been held to the Lepas Dealer Excellence Programme, a non-negotiable framework that governs how customers are welcomed, how vehicles are presented, how technicians are trained, and how aftersales care is delivered.

This is what premium means in practice. Not just beautiful spaces and striking vehicles, but a consistency of experience that customers can rely on whether they walk into a Lepas Dealership in Bruma or Table Bay. Every customer deserves the same level of care, and at Lepas, that is not an aspiration. It is a standard.

JUST GETTING STARTED

The 27 open dealerships represent the foundation, not the ceiling. Lepas South Africa has confirmed that further dealer appointments are in advanced stages across South Africa, with new openings expected in Waterfall and Pietermarizburg in May.

The Rand Club: Jameson Raid

The Rand Club’s history is as exclusionary as it is grand. For most of its existence, it was a bastion of white, male, British-aligned power. It was famously the “nerve center” for the Jameson Raid in 1895—a botched coup attempt against Paul Kruger’s South African Republic that served as a precursor to the devastating Second Boer War. For nearly 100 years, women were not allowed to be members, and black South Africans were permitted only as staff. The club’s refusal to modernize its membership policies led to a slow decline in the late 20th century as the “new” Johannesburg moved to Sandton. By the early 2010s, the club was facing bankruptcy, its grand halls gathering dust and its membership dwindling to a few hundred traditionalists.
