DA Retains Midvaal

7 November 2026 by Con Tributor

Statement by Ald Peter Teixeira – DA Midvaal Mayor-elect:

The DA thanks Midvaal residents for placing their confidence in us once more and choosing the DA for five more years.

Thousands of Midvaal residents showed up to cast their votes and support progress under a DA-led administration, and the results speak for themselves.

We lead in the majority of Midvaal’s wards, while also taking ward 6 from the ANC.

The public has recognised our ability to deliver effective services and has once again decided to renew their trust in us. This is because we have proven that where we govern, yes, even in townships, we govern well, and people believe in the results we produce.

We will continue to improve basic services, invest in community safety, grow the local economy through infrastructure, and give residents more say while modernising municipal services.

We’re eager to deliver on our promises to the community and honor the pledges we’ve made.

This reflects our continued commitment to accountability, transparency, availability, and accessibility, ensuring that Midvaal remains Gauteng’s best-run municipality.

Residents have seen the chaos that neighbouring municipalities have descended into under the ANC and its counterparts. They have decided they prefer the reliable service delivery and safer streets the DA provides.

We thank all voters for their overwhelming support, as well as our candidates, activists, and campaign team, whose efforts made this victory possible.

We will honour the trust residents have placed in us by keeping our promises and keeping Midvaal working for all.

The FNB Stadium: Resisting Seismic Activity

From a technical perspective, the “Calabash” is a marvel of modern engineering. Because the stadium sits on the edge of the mining belt, the foundations had to be incredibly robust to account for potential seismic activity from old mine workings. The roof is a cantilevered steel structure that covers almost all the seats but leaves the pitch open to the Highveld sun, designed to keep the noise of the crowd—and the legendary vuvuzelas—echoing inside the bowl to create an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams. The upper tier is sloped at a sharp angle to ensure that even the fans in the “nosebleed” sections have a clear, unobstructed view of the action.
