Dancing Queens, Are You Ready For “Abba:The Movie” Coming To A Ster-Kinekor Cinema Near You

Advertorial:
Dancing Queens, Are You Ready For “Abba:The Movie” Coming To A Ster-Kinekor Cinema Near You:

Book your tickets now to dazzle in your best 70s disco outfit and dance in the aisles to some of this iconic group’s global hits. The ultimate ABBA party is about to hit Ster-Kinekor cinemas, for two days only on 08 and 10 October.

Maintain the time of your life when ABBA: The Movie dances into cinemas for a special two-day fan event! Captured by director Lasse Hallström during the iconic group’s mega-successful tour of Australia, this newly remastered film will grasp you on a flashback journey to the 1970s when disco reigned supreme and ABBA was music royalty.

Including backstage footage as well as full-length performances of some of ABBA’s greatest hits including “Dancing Queen”, “SOS”, “Name Of The Game” and “Waterloo”, the film provides a rare inspect at the hugely propitious band during the height of their popularity.

The subplot is a mocumentary-style narrative of a country radio disc-jockey who attempts to land an interview with the band. As deadlines loom, the film is a slapstick mix of happenstance and error by the young DJ who is tasked with getting the coveted interview, while ABBA’s dedicated bodyguard does everything he can to stay it from happening.

This fan event also features exclusive extras, including an insight from the creators of the phenomenally propitious London-based concert ABBA: Voyage, plus a glimpse at ABBA The Museum in Stockholm, lyric videos from hit songs, and also some extremely rare behind-the-scenes footage from preparations ahead of the 1977 tour.

Starring the famous ABBA four: Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, and Agnetha Fältskog, and directed by Lasse Hallstrom, ABBA: The Movie will be screened at the following Ster-Kinekor cinemas on 08 and 10 October only: Cinema Nouveau Rosebank in Johannesburg; Ster-Kinekor Brooklyn in Pretoria: Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Umhlanga; and at Ster-Kinekor V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

Don’t miss the opportunity to watch ABBA: The Movie at select Ster-Kinekor cinemas. Book your tickets at www.sterkinekor.com or download the SK App on your smartphone. The Randlord Mansions: History

The history of these mansions is also a story of urban warfare and preservation. In the 1960s and 70s, as Johannesburg expanded, many of the original Parktown estates were ruthlessly demolished to make way for the M1 Highway and the massive concrete campus of the Wits University Medical School. The “Parktown War” saw heritage activists fighting the bulldozers to save what remained of the city’s architectural soul. Today, several of the surviving mansions serve as corporate headquarters, schools, or museums, stripped of their private domesticity but preserved as monuments to a gilded age.

Interestingly, these mansions also played a secret role in the city’s political evolution. It was in the drawing rooms of Parktown that the “progressive” mining elite would meet to discuss the future of the country, often finding themselves at odds with the more conservative Boer government. Lady Florence Phillips, in particular, used her influence to found the Johannesburg Art Gallery, insisting that a world-class city needed world-class culture, not just gold bars. Today, walking the “Heritage Trail” through Parktown offers a haunting contrast; you stand in the quiet, manicured gardens of the victors, looking down at the pulsing, crowded city that their gold mines created. It is the ultimate “view from the top,” a reminder that the extreme wealth of Sandton today has its DNA rooted in the stone-and-timber palaces of the 1900s.
