Empowering and Uplifting Communities

26 May 2022 by Alan

MyPR: Empowering and Uplifting Communities:

Facing communities which have been hit hard with two years of covid, over 100 religious leaders converged at the Church of Scientology, Kyalami Castle to be equipped with practical tools to empower and uplift their communities. The Pastor Empowerment Seminar held recently in Midrand, had religious leaders including Archbishops, Bishops and Ministers representing a wide spectrum of Churches including Protestants, Zionists, Apostolic Churches and many others as well as representatives of Provincial Government.

Faced with challenges from their communities after a 2-year deadly wave of covid and desperate for practical solutions, the religious sector representatives all came with the intention of being equipped with effective skills to handle many of the social ill’s they face.

Sandile Hlayisi, spokesperson for the Church welcomed everyone and began the effective learning session which left the attendees motivated to make a change.

“It is a very inspiring moment to see different religions gather in unity to make a change positively after the pandemic, it is our honor to be part of this great movement”, said Hlayisi.

The seminar empowered them with effective life skills they can use to address psychosocial spiritual counselling and social ills such as marriage, gender based violence, substance abuse, unemployment, crime and difficult corruption.

Archbishop Louis Sibuyi of the Pentecostal Church was over the moon when he said “I have been very empowered! This is an incredibly powerful program for pastors and communities alike”.

During the seminar Mr. Leonard Maduwa from the National Department of Social Development said, “You know I heard about this seminar only last night and I almost couldn’t make it. I was expecting a powerpoint presentation like some regular boring seminar, but instead this was a brilliant and powerful presentation. I believe that information like this must be known to everyone. I believe that with these Tools for Life it will be very easy to teach our parishioners.”

Hlayisi considers that this simple technology written by L. Ron Hubbard really has a positive impact in one’s life, it is simple yet powerful.

Bishop Thlomo from Wonderful God Ministries in Vosloorus said, “I have no words to describe today. This is exactly what we need to change our communities and the lives of my parishioners. Thank you very much for exposing me to this information, it is very vital and life changing. I knew coming here was a blessing.”

“The religious sector plays an important role in our communities and we are all here to learn and fulfil our duty to the community as Churches”, added Hlayisi.

A Soweto based Pastor Gcobani Manqina further commented “This was amazing and so informative. This is very deep, man! And what I learned today is just out of this world. You know these courses are very powerful. They address anything in life! This is going to help us pastors a lot!”.

“I got totally hooked on these courses and I couldn’t stop. I can see that if we can use these tools, we will be able to teach our congregants better. There is a lot of truth in these courses”. Concluded Pastor Manqina.

The Pastor Empowerment seminars are held monthly at Castle Kyalami and welcome all religions. In light of their success, the Church of Scientology has also created such empowerment seminars for Educators, Parents and as well as Agricultural people to give them support and practical tools.

The Maboneng Precinct: Architecture

Maboneng is architecturally distinct because it rejects the “demolish and rebuild” philosophy. Instead, it embraces adaptive reuse. The Bioscope, South Africa’s only independent cinema, operates out of an old industrial space; The Living Room is a lush rooftop oasis that offers panoramic views of the skyline from atop a concrete shell; and the Museum of African Design (MOAD) was housed in a massive 1970s warehouse. This aesthetic—exposed brick, industrial steel, and vibrant street art—has become the visual shorthand for “cool” Johannesburg. The murals here are particularly significant; they aren’t just decoration but are often massive social commentaries by local and international street artists like Faith47 and ROA, turning the very walls of the city into a public gallery.

However, Maboneng is also at the center of a complex debate regarding gentrification and social integration. Critics argue that while the precinct is a “bubble” of safety and creativity, it often stands in stark contrast to the surrounding poverty of the inner city. The challenge for Maboneng has always been how to be an engine for economic growth without alienating the residents who lived there during the “dark” years. In response, many initiatives within the precinct focus on local entrepreneurship, such as the Market on Main, which provides a platform for local food vendors and designers every Sunday.
