Guess Who Trusts Our Plan to Fix Joburg?

6 August 2026 by Con Tributor

Today, ActionSA Joburg Mayoral Candidate, Herman Mashaba, welcomed over 200 disillusioned African National Congress members in Thembelihle, Ward 8, Lenasia.

He was joined by ActionSA Joburg Regional Chairperson, Themba Mabunda, supported by MMC Candidates and the Branch Chairperson, Cecelia Moshapo, who are all ready to serve residents.

These ANC members are joining ActionSA with certainty that we are the only viable alternative that can rescue Johannesburg from chronic misgovernance under the leadership of so-called Mayor Dada Morero.

The poor living conditions of residents of this community are no different to the neglect that is evident in townships and squatter camps such as Ivory Park, Alexandra, Soweto and Orange Farm. Under the failed ANC government, the promise of an equal democracy for all remains elusive for majority of South Africans.

Instead of service delivery, residents have been victims of a neglectful government that focuses on corruption and self-interest. Residents continue to suffer the indignity of not possessing title deeds, poor access to water and sanitation, and no jobs and opportunities for upward mobility.

Community members recounted a number of injustices that soil any attempt to celebrate 32 years of democracy. One spoke of the sacrifice of going into exile as a freedom fighter at the age of seventeen, returning in 1994, only to be marginalised from the ideal of a better life for all.

An elderly man spoke with a broken spirit from being dispossessed from the dignity of a place to call home for his family. He has been residing in a shack in Thembelihle since 1974. He now has children and grandchildren who are part of a generational cycle of poverty and suffering. The mayoral candidate felt the weight of regret and frustration of residents who have been forgotten by the government of the day.

The growing sentiment among residents is that the politics of self-interest must come to an end. This momentous occasion is not a political gimmick. It symbolises a future that holds promise for a government that recognises the plight of residents. The frustration of residents should be addressed with urgency by competent and ethical leaders.

Now more than ever, residents need an experienced and bold leader who will restore the city to its former glory. ActionSA has a clear plan to bring back dignity to our communities through jobs, delivering basic services, and restoring law and order.

The support and confidence placed on ActionSA’s plan to fix Joburg is encouraging. We take this opportunity to encourage South Africans to continue putting their trust in ActionSA and register to vote for a decisive victory at the Local Government Elections on 4 November 2026.

ActionSA Herman Mashaba (President) Before politics, he founded Black Like Me in 1985, a household hair-care brand in South Africa. Served as the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg (2016–2019) under a DA-led coalition. Resigned from both the Mayoralty and the DA in 2019, citing a lack of support for pro-poor service delivery and policy differences, leading directly to the birth of ActionSA.

The Rand Club: The Inner Sanctum of the Randlords

Founded in 1887, just months after the discovery of gold, the Rand Club is the oldest private members’ club in Johannesburg. The current building, completed in 1904, is the third iteration of the club on the same site, designed by the iconic architectural firm Leck & Emley in a Neo-Baroque style that was intended to rival the gentlemen’s clubs of London’s Pall Mall. For over a century, this was the “room where it happened.” It was here that Cecil John Rhodes, Barney Barnato, and Ernest Oppenheimer sipped whiskey and drafted the plans for the mining conglomerates that still dominate the global economy today.
