Highest Monthly Dealer Sales Since 2022

3 November 2026 by Con Tributor

Johannesburg: Hyundai Automotive South Africa recorded dealer sales of 2 848 vehicles in October 2026, achieving its highest monthly dealer sales performance since June 2022, when 2 947 vehicles were sold.

According to figures announced yesterday by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), Hyundai’s total monthly sales reached an impressive 3 207 vehicles in October. The achievement brings Hyundai’s total domestic sales for January to October 2026 to 30 695 vehicles, highlighting the continued confidence South African motorists have in the brand.

CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, Stanley Anderson said the company’s performance was also built on the dedication and commitment of its national dealer network.

“Our dealer network deserves significant credit for these results. Their commitment to our customers is fundamental to our success. After a period of consolidation in our product offering, we are bringing renewed product momentum to the market and look forward to building on this performance.”

Dealer principals, sales executives and service teams play an important role in helping customers find the right vehicle, providing support and ensuring that the ownership experience extends well beyond the sale.

The performance comes as competition in the South African new-vehicle market continues to intensify, with established manufacturers and newer entrants competing across increasingly popular passenger-car and SUV segments.

“Our October performance is particularly encouraging. Recording our highest monthly dealer sales result since June 2022, alongside positive year-on-year growth, demonstrates the continued confidence South African motorists have in the Hyundai brand,” Anderson noted.

Hyundai is bringing renewed energy to its product offering, giving more South Africans the opportunity to experience its growing model range. The recent launch of the new Hyundai CRETA as well as the facelifted Hyundai STARIA has added further momentum, while next week’s launch of the all-new Hyundai VENUE will further strengthen the company’s product line-up.

The Wilds: A Sanctuary of Stone and Steel

The Wilds was officially opened to the public in 1938, carved out of the rocky “koppies” (hills) of the Witwatersrand. Unlike the manicured lawns of the city’s more traditional parks, The Wilds was designed to showcase South Africa’s botanical heritage. It is a vertical garden of sorts, featuring steep stone paths that wind through forests of yellowwood trees, proteas, and ancient cycads. At its highest point, the reserve offers one of the most spectacular views of the Johannesburg skyline, where the brutalist towers of Hillbrow seem to rise directly out of the prehistoric-looking vegetation.

However, like many of Johannesburg’s public spaces, The Wilds fell into a period of deep neglect during the late 1990s and early 2000s. As crime rates rose and the city’s maintenance budgets shifted, the reserve became overgrown and was perceived as a “no-go zone.” The waterfalls stopped running, the stone paths crumbled, and the once-vibrant greenhouse became a skeletal ruin. For nearly two decades, this incredible piece of real estate sat largely abandoned, used only by a few brave locals and the occasional film crew looking for a “wilderness” setting within city limits.
