“We are very excited about the Port Alfred Easter Festival, as well as our firm partnership with Rip Curl South Africa,” said Royal St Andrews Hotel owner Justin Bekker. “We have wanted an event of this magnitude in Port Alfred for a while now to benefit the whole town, and it is finally coming together.”

The two surfing events will take place at East Beach, while the SA Bodyboarding Challenge will take place at West Beach. The contests and the Easter Festival have the support of the Kowie Boardriders.

“We are very pleased to be a part of the Port Alfred Easter Festival. We are also stoked to be partnering with The Royal St Andrews Hotel, as well as with Sea Harvest for the Rip Curl events,” said Rip Curl South Africa CEO Stuart Daykin. “It’s also a great thing to have the positivity from the Kowie Boardriders behind the events and the very appreciated assistance of the NSRI at the surf competitions. The Carlton Centre: A Monument of Concrete and Contradiction

Rising 223 meters into the Highveld sky, the Carlton Centre was for nearly half a century the undisputed “king” of the African skyline. Completed in 1973, it held the title of the tallest building in Africa for 46 years—a reign that only ended in 2019 with the completion of The Leonardo in Sandton. It was designed by the prestigious American firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (the same minds behind the Burj Khalifa and Chicago’s Willis Tower), and its brutalist, reinforced concrete design was intended to be a “city within a city,” a symbol of South Africa’s then-booming industrial and mining economy.
