Legal Times ZA: A New Home for South Africa’s Legal Insight

6 October 2026 by Con Tributor

A new publication bringing together the judgments, people, disputes and developments shaping South Africa’s legal and corporate landscape.

South Africa’s legal landscape is constantly moving. Landmark judgments reshape how businesses operate, new appointments influence major organisations, and disputes between companies, individuals and the state can have consequences far beyond the courtroom.

Yet for readers trying to follow these developments, legal news can often be fragmented across different platforms. Legal Times ZA enters this space with a clear objective: to become a trusted destination for those seeking to understand what is happening across South Africa’s legal and corporate landscape, and why it matters.

The publication will cover landmark judgments, legal developments, litigation, corporate governance, company secretarial matters, intellectual property and cyber law. It will also follow the people behind the law, including judges, advocates, attorneys, in-house counsel, company secretaries, governance professionals and emerging legal talent.

For businesses, particularly JSE-listed companies, the legal function has become increasingly strategic. Issues involving governance, regulation, litigation, intellectual property, technology and compliance can have a direct bearing on reputation and commercial performance. Legal Times ZA will therefore pay particular attention to legal appointments, developments and issues affecting major listed companies and the professionals advising them.

As Managing Editor, Nakedi Phala says the publication is intended to look beyond the headline. “Legal Times ZA is about connecting the law to the people, organisations and decisions it affects, while giving readers credible reporting, meaningful insight and a clearer view of what matters.”

The publication will also look beyond the courtroom, reporting on litigation between private parties, disputes involving private entities and the state, regulatory developments and commercial matters that warrant closer attention. Legal Times ZA will also cover legal indabas, seminars, conferences and professional forums, providing insight into the conversations shaping the profession and wider business environment. People will remain central to the publication. Legal Times ZA will profile individuals whose careers, expertise and leadership are influencing the legal profession, while highlighting significant appointments and emerging talent. The intention is not simply to report who has been appointed or which judgment has been delivered. It is to provide context and, where appropriate, examine the wider implications.

At a time when law, business, technology and governance are increasingly interconnected, understanding legal developments requires more than a headline.
Legal Times ZA is being built for readers who want to follow those developments, understand their significance and stay informed about the people and institutions shaping them.

From landmark judgments and major litigation to corporate governance, intellectual property, cyber law and the changing face of South Africa’s legal profession, Legal Times ZA brings the conversation into one place.

It is a publication built on the belief that good legal journalism should inform, question and provide context.

Legal Times ZA is now open for that conversation.

Museum Africa: The Memory of the Market

Long before it was a sanctuary for artifacts, this building was the Johannesburg Municipal Fruit and Vegetable Market, completed in 1913. At the time, it was an architectural marvel of the industrial age, featuring a massive, vaulted roof supported by reinforced concrete and steel—a design intended to keep the produce cool in the biting Highveld sun. The site was chosen for its proximity to the railway lines, allowing fresh goods from across Southern Africa to be funneled directly into the heart of the city. For decades, it was a place of frantic, multi-racial commerce where the air was thick with the smell of citrus and the shouts of auctioneers. In 1994—the same year South Africa held its first democratic elections—the market was transformed into Museum Africa, symbolically turning a site of physical sustenance into one of intellectual and historical nourishment.
