Lou Appel’s Auto Spares Sees Ongoing Demand From Vehicle Owners Seeking to Sell Damaged and Non-running Cars

6 February 2026 by Con Tributor

Lou Appel’s Auto Spares has reported continued enquiries from vehicle owners across Gauteng and surrounding areas looking for practical options to sell vehicles that are no longer roadworthy. Operating through its damaged vehicle acquisition service, the business supports individuals who need to sell a damaged car due to accident damage, age-related deterioration, or declining mechanical condition.

The company assists motorists who wish to sell a car with mechanical problems, including vehicles affected by engine failure, gearbox issues, electrical faults, or long-term breakdowns. These are often vehicles that are costly to repair and difficult to resell privately, leaving owners searching for reliable alternatives.

Lou Appel’s Auto Spares also supports clients who need to sell non running cars, including vehicles that have been standing unused, written off by insurers, or no longer economically viable to restore. The process provides a structured option for vehicle disposal while enabling components to be recovered and reused within the automotive parts supply chain.

As an established operation with strong links to the local auto recycling sector, the business functions as part of the broader scrap yard and used spares ecosystem. This supports more responsible vehicle dismantling and contributes to the availability of affordable second-hand parts for workshops and motorists.

Lou Appel’s Auto Spares works directly with private vehicle owners, insurers, panel beaters, and mechanical workshops to coordinate assessments and collection. Enquiries are handled on a case-by-case basis, with attention given to vehicle condition, documentation requirements, and practical arrangements for collection.

The Wilds: Rebirth

The “rebirth” of The Wilds is one of the most heartening community success stories in modern Johannesburg history. It was spearheaded by local artist James Delaney and a dedicated group of volunteers starting around 2013. Delaney began by simply clearing dead wood and trimming overgrown paths on his own, but the project soon evolved into a massive public-private partnership. The most iconic addition to the park during this revival was the installation of over 100 laser-cut steel sculptures of animals. These brightly colored owls, giraffes, antelopes, and monkeys are perched in the trees and tucked behind rocks, turning a walk through the reserve into a scavenger hunt for “industrial wildlife.”

Today, The Wilds is a thriving, safe, and dog-friendly space that hosts yoga classes, art exhibitions, and thousands of visitors every weekend. It has become a symbol of “active citizenship”—the idea that the residents of Johannesburg don’t have to wait for the government to fix their city; they can take ownership of their own neighborhoods. The park is also a critical ecological corridor; in a city that is increasingly paved over, The Wilds provides a habitat for indigenous birdlife and insects that would otherwise struggle to survive in the “concrete jungle.”
