Parisian Sparkle, Runway Glamour and a Spirited October at Hyde Park Corner

20 October 2026 by Con Tributor

From the arrival of French fine jewellery house RedLine Paris to South African Fashion Week, festive shopping and an evening of exceptional spirits, there’s plenty happening at Hyde Park Corner this October.

October is shaping up to be a stylish month at Hyde Park Corner. French fine jewellery has arrived in Johannesburg, South African Fashion Week is preparing to take over the runway, Christmas shopping is already on the agenda with the month ending on a high note at an evening dedicated to discovering some of the world’s finest spirits.

Add a newly refurbished store and longer Sunday shopping hours plus a new rooftop parkade to the mix, and there’s plenty to fill the diary… and Christmas stockings too.

“October is always an exciting time at Hyde Park Corner as we head towards the festive season,” says Tevye Block, General Manager of Hyde Park Corner. “We’re delighted to welcome the first RedLine Paris boutique on the African continent to the centre, particularly as it brings such a distinctive jewellery offering to Johannesburg. With South African Fashion Week returning, some fantastic events on the calendar and new reasons to explore our stores, we’re looking forward to a busy few weeks.”

A diamond, a thread and a touch of Paris

There’s a new name in fine jewellery at Hyde Park Corner, and it comes with an intriguing story. RedLine Paris has opened its first boutique in Africa, bringing the French jewellery house’s signature diamond-on-a-thread creations to Johannesburg.

Founded in Paris in 2004, RedLine pairs precious diamonds and 18-carat gold with a delicate thread, drawing inspiration from the red thread’s symbolism in cultures around the world. Associated with love, protection, luck and connection, the thread gives each piece a meaning that goes well beyond its sparkle.

The brand has attracted an international following, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Beyoncé and Victoria Beckham among the famous names who have worn its jewellery.

Designed to resemble an elegant Parisian apartment, the new boutique houses a collection of bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings, with pieces that can be worn individually or layered to create a personal look.

Christmas has moved upstairs

If you’re one of those organised people who starts thinking about Christmas long before December, you’ll be pleased to hear that Nicholas & Co has a new home on the Upper Mall.

The popular Christmas emporium has brought its collection of festive decorations, décor and seasonal treasures along for the move. From beautiful tree ornaments to those finishing touches that make a Christmas table memorable, it’s worth a visit before the festive rush begins.

A fresh look for Socrati

Socrati has reopened following its refurbishment, welcoming shoppers into a refreshed store with the latest collections ready to explore.

With the warmer months ahead, it’s a good excuse to browse the new-season arrivals and add a few new pieces to your Summer shoe line-up.

Five days of fashion | 21 to 25 October

Fashion lovers, clear your diaries. South African Fashion Week returns to The Forum at Hyde Park Corner from 21 to 25 October, showcasing the Autumn/Winter ‘27 Collections.

Now in its 29th year, the event brings together established South African designers and emerging talent, with collections spanning couture, tailoring, menswear, streetwear, heritage, craft and contemporary African design.

There’s also an intriguing French connection this year, with a newly announced collaboration with the legendary Pierre Cardin fashion house.

Whether you’re following the designers, looking for new names to watch or simply love a good runway show, it’s one of the highlights of Johannesburg’s fashion calendar.

International names include Martell and Rémy Martin, while Larsen Cognac will make a rare South African appearance exclusively for the evening.

Exhibitors will offer complimentary tastings, with selected spirits also available to purchase by the glass.

Sundays just got longer and parking just got easier

There’s good news for anyone who enjoys taking their time over a Sunday shopping trip. Hyde Park Corner has extended its Sunday trading hours to 17h00, giving shoppers two additional hours to browse, meet friends for lunch or enjoy a coffee after a little retail therapy. Hyde Park Corner has also opened its new Level 2 rooftop parkade, offering additional covered parking, spacious VIP bays and more accessible parking bays, making visits to the centre even more convenient.

With new arrivals to discover, Christmas shopping to get started on and a busy events calendar, there’s every reason to make a date with Hyde Park Corner this October.

Museum Africa: Art Collection

The museum’s collection is staggering, housing approximately 850,000 objects that range from the prehistoric to the contemporary. It is one of the few institutions that attempts to tell the story of Southern Africa from the Stone Age to the nuclear age. The “Johannesburg Transformations” exhibition is the museum’s centerpiece, dragging the visitor through the chaotic evolution of the city. It doesn’t shy away from the grime; it features detailed reconstructions of “shack life,” the illegal “shebeens” (speakeasies) of the 1950s, and the vibrant but overcrowded “backyard rooms” that defined the black urban experience during Apartheid. One of its most sobering permanent displays is the “Tried for Treason” exhibit, which meticulously documents the 1956 Treason Trial. Visitors can see the portraits of all 156 accused—including Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu, and Albertina Sisulu—and read the “little red books” placed beneath each photo, where the public is invited to write their own reflections and facts about these liberation icons.

Deep within the museum’s labyrinthine halls, you’ll find specialized branches that are world-class in their own right. The Bensusan Museum of Photography sits on the top floor, acting as a shrine to the visual history of the continent. It contains everything from rare 19th-century daguerreotypes to the legendary photojournalism of the Drum magazine era. Meanwhile, the Geology Museum houses over 17,000 specimens, including a definitive collection of the rocks and minerals that made Johannesburg possible. It is a place where you can see the actual gold-bearing conglomerate reefs of the Witwatersrand up close, stripped of their commercial value and presented as scientific wonders.
