Pre-orders for the second-generation T-Roc are now open

18 August 2026 by Con Tributor

Johannesburg – Volkswagen has officially opened pre-orders for the all-new Volkswagen T-Roc, giving customers the opportunity to secure one of the brand’s most exciting new SUVs ahead of its official market launch early in September 2026.

Positioned between the Taigo and Tiguan, the second-generation T-Roc strengthens Volkswagen’s growing T-SUV family alongside the T-Cross, Taigo, Tiguan, Tayron and Touareg. Combining expressive design, premium craftsmanship and advanced technology, the new T-Roc raises the benchmark in the compact SUV segment while delivering the quality, innovation and driving experience synonymous with Volkswagen.

Bold design with unmistakable Volkswagen character

The all-new T-Roc introduces a more confident and athletic appearance, characterised by elongated proportions, sculptured surfaces and a wider stance. Signature design elements include the distinctive silver “hockey stick” styling line extending from the A-pillar to the D-pillar, muscular rear shoulders and an all-new lighting signature that immediately distinguishes the T-Roc from every angle.

Standard LED headlights with separate daytime running lights, LED rear combination lamps contribute to a modern, premium appearance, while selected derivatives feature Volkswagen’s innovative IQ. LIGHT LED Matrix headlights with Dynamic Light Assist and full-width illuminated light strips at the front and rear.

Premium interior with advanced digital technology

Inside, the new T-Roc takes a significant step forward in quality and sophistication. The cabin features an all-new dashboard design with premium soft-touch materials, a clean, driver-focused layout and enhanced digital functionality inspired by Volkswagen’s latest generation of vehicles.

Wireless App-Connect, a multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel with shift paddles and Volkswagen’s latest Digital Cockpit create an intuitive and connected driving experience including a 10.3-inch infotainment system standard across the range.

Practicality remains a key strength of the T-Roc, offering comfortable accommodation for five occupants together with a generous 475-litre luggage compartment, making it equally suited to everyday commuting and weekend adventures.

Confidence through technology

The all-new T-Roc combines innovative technology with intelligent driver assistance systems designed to make every journey safer and more enjoyable.

Depending on the derivative, the new T-Roc offers an extensive range of advanced driver assistance systems. Park Assist and a rear-view camera are standard features, while the optional IQ.DRIVE package further enhances safety and convenience with Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert and an exit warning system, Lane Keeping System with Traffic Jam Assist, and Emergency Assist.

Efficient TSI engine. The new T-Roc is offered with the 1.4 TSI 110kW engine mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission. The engine develops maximum torque of 250 Nm available between 1500 and 3500 rpm.

Pricing will be announced closer to launch date.

The Wilds: A Sanctuary of Stone and Steel

The Wilds was officially opened to the public in 1938, carved out of the rocky “koppies” (hills) of the Witwatersrand. Unlike the manicured lawns of the city’s more traditional parks, The Wilds was designed to showcase South Africa’s botanical heritage. It is a vertical garden of sorts, featuring steep stone paths that wind through forests of yellowwood trees, proteas, and ancient cycads. At its highest point, the reserve offers one of the most spectacular views of the Johannesburg skyline, where the brutalist towers of Hillbrow seem to rise directly out of the prehistoric-looking vegetation.

However, like many of Johannesburg’s public spaces, The Wilds fell into a period of deep neglect during the late 1990s and early 2000s. As crime rates rose and the city’s maintenance budgets shifted, the reserve became overgrown and was perceived as a “no-go zone.” The waterfalls stopped running, the stone paths crumbled, and the once-vibrant greenhouse became a skeletal ruin. For nearly two decades, this incredible piece of real estate sat largely abandoned, used only by a few brave locals and the occasional film crew looking for a “wilderness” setting within city limits.
