Advertorial:
SA Podcast and Music Festival: A Media Partnership for Youth Development:

Johannesburg, South Africa – The much-anticipated SA Podcast and Music Festival is set to debut at the Red Roman Shed in Emperors Palace, bringing together major media powerhouses for a one-of-a-kind event focused on the development and empowerment of content creators.

Festival organizer Nicolas Regisford remarks, “The opportunity to collaborate with SABC and Arena Holdings is both humbling and inspiring. Their support signals a strong belief in the festival’s vision and fosters a partnership built on mutual trust and value exchange. Our goal is to create relationships that are not only beneficial now but also have the potential to become commercially viable in the future.”

This landmark event highlights the importance of media partnerships in creating meaningful and impactful experiences. Attendees can expect to hear extensive coverage on SABC radio stations and read about the festival in the Sunday Times, Sowetan, and on digital platforms such as Sowetan Live, Viva Nation TV, and Times Live, all part of the Arena Holdings network.

DJ Sbu, a key supporter of the festival, emphasizes the significance of the event: “Youth Month is the perfect time to create something memorable. We’re dedicated to making this festival a standout experience.”

Mmoni Seapolelo said, “We are thrilled to be in partnership with SA Podcast and Music Festival, a dynamic force in the media industry. We strongly believe that together we will amplify our message of youth development, reach wider audiences using our various platforms as the public broadcaster, and inspire positive change in our society through the power of media”.

The festival will kick off with a Podcast Masterclass and DJ performances on Day 1, followed by a Music Masterclass on Day 2. The second day will also feature live performances, A&R development sessions, and a critical conversation on the music industry today, presented by The Music Arena.

Join us for an unforgettable celebration of media and music, and take part in shaping the future of content creation.

The Oriental Plaza: Architecture

Architecturally, the Plaza is a sprawling 17-hectare complex consisting of North and South malls linked by a three-story circular “Grand Bazaar.” But the true magic is in the sensory experience. Walking through the Plaza is an assault of colors and smells: rolls of exotic sari fabrics stacked to the ceiling, the scent of high-quality leather from shoe-repair stalls, and the aroma of toasted spices. It is a place where “bargaining” is an art form—unlike the fixed prices of Sandton, here you engage directly with the owner, often a third-generation merchant whose family was moved from Fietas fifty years ago.

The cultural heart of the Plaza is undoubtedly its food, specifically the legendary World of Samoosas. This small stall has become a local institution, famous for its unique sweet coconut samoosas and its “Nelson Mandela approved” status (the former president was a fan). Near the south entrance, you’ll find a blue heritage plaque marking Red Square. Long before the Plaza was built, this was an open square where the ANC and Communist Party held mass rallies, and where the Defiance Campaign was launched in 1952. The fact that a shopping mall now stands over this revolutionary ground is a poignant reminder of the city’s layered history. The Oriental Plaza didn’t just survive Apartheid; it outlasted the system that tried to use it as a cage, becoming a symbol of the “tenacity and trading ability” that defines the Johannesburg spirit.
