SAMBRA Conference 2019

MyPR: SAMBRA Conference 2019:

The SAMBRA 2019 conference (South African Motor Body Repairers’ Association conference) gets underway on 17 October at Emperors Palace in Gauteng & will run from the 17th to the 19th of October.

This year we will be including an extra day specially earmarked for a highly targeted Enterprise Development focus, hosted by Dionne Kerr of Siyakha. The target is to have 200 delegates representing funders from corporate and government spheres as well as small and micro-enterprises. The conference will have a clear focus on growth and development in the sector as well as support to Exempted Micro Enterprises (EME’s) and Qualifying Small Enterprises (QSE’s) supplying the sector. The conference will include showcasing of innovation within the sector presented by successful innovators to stimulate strong collaborative thinking and engagement.

The 18th and 19th will follow with the OEM Conference and SAMBRA Conference culminating in the annual SAMBRA Awards gala dinner on the Saturday which honours top vehicle insurers, OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and paint and equipment suppliers for their contribution to the sustainability of motor body repairers in South Africa.

The outcome of the SAMBRA survey has become an important benchmark to measure the success and progress in the insurance, OEM and supplier sectors.

The industry is transforming rapidly and it is critical to be able to build best practice models by assisting all parties to re-evaluate and streamline their processes and procedures and improve skill levels and regulatory compliance. The addition of our Enterprise Development conference this year will be a useful catalyst in encouraging growth and ownership transfer in the sector.

Midrand was established as a municipality in 1981 (in an area known as Halfway House, after its position between Pretoria and Johannesburg), but ceased to be an independent town in the restructuring of local government that followed the end of apartheid in 1994. The Socio-Political Crucible of Soweto

You cannot understand Johannesburg without understanding Soweto (an acronym for South Western Townships). Originally established as a “labor dormitory” to house black miners away from the white city center, Soweto grew into a sprawling metropolis of over 1.3 million people and became the epicenter of the struggle against Apartheid.

The township is home to Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world to have been home to two Nobel Peace Prize winners: Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. It was also the site of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, when thousands of students protested against the forced use of Afrikaans in schools. The police response and the subsequent death of 13-year-old Hector Pieterson catalyzed international condemnation of the Apartheid regime. Today, Soweto is a vibrant cultural hub, blending historical landmarks like the Orlando Towers (now used for bungee jumping) with a booming tourism industry and a sophisticated middle class. It represents the city’s resilience—a place born from segregation that transformed into a symbol of liberation and modern South African identity.
