MyPR: Surfing: Mossel Bay Ready For The Rip Curl GromSearch #1 presented by Sea Harvest:

Mossel Bay: The Rip Curl GromSearch presented by Sea Harvest is set to return to South African surfing with event #1 this weekend, 9/10 April, at Mossel Bay. The competition has enjoyed a massive entry, and it will be two full days of surfing in Mossels.
The Rip Curl GromSearch comprises three events, with Mossel Bay being the first and a celebration of having this prestigious series back in the country. The following two competitions will be held at Magnatubes in Jeffreys Bay and the final contest at Scottburgh during the later part of the year.
It is a Premier SAST series of events, with 1,000 points going to the winners and prizemoney per a premier contest.
Entries include the likes of Luke Thompson, Connor Slijpen, Joel Dace and Luc Lepront in the U18 boy’s division, locals Blake Crankshow and Kane Johnson in the U16 boys, Nathan Taylor and Kai Stubbs in the U14 boys and Luc Jackson and Liam Le Roux in the U12 boy’s division.
Local surfer Destin De Necker will be competing in the U/16 division.
Gabriella von Mollendorff and Maya Malherbe are competing in the U12 girls, divison, while Taylor Emslie and Emily Jenkinson are in the U14 girls. Gabriella Ann Herbst and Tyra von Mollendorff will be competing in the competitive U16 girl’s division, with Sarah Scott and Zia Hendricks in the U18 category.
All heats can be viewed via the liveheats link on the Surfing South Africa website.

The early forecast is showing some onshore winds for the weekend. Still, the weather patterns change frequently this time of the year, and there will likely be improved conditions as we approach the event.
Either way, the Rip Curl GromSearch series allows kids to compete against the best surfers in the same age bracket from their country. This format provides these groms with an insight into a life of competitive surfing and gives them the invaluable experience of surfing and competing in different waves around the country.
It is a Premier SAST event, with 1,000 points going to the winners and prizemoney per a premier event. There will be an 8:00 am start on Saturday morning and a 7:30 am start on Sunday.
