MyPR: Win Free Restaurant Marketing For Your Favourite Restaurant Worth R15,000!:

Johannesburg, May, 17, 2021: JoziStyle is sponsoring a R15,000 marketing campaign for your favourite restaurant.

The restaurant industry has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID pandemic resulting in thousands of job losses. The economic consequences extend beyond the restaurant industry as their staff, suppliers, and families are also affected.

Food & lifestyle blog, JoziStyle, is sponsoring a marketing campaign to promote restaurants and encourage South Africans to support their local restaurants. The prize includes a social media activation guaranteed to reach over 385,000 people, a paid-for three-course luncheon for invited media and guests, sponsored editorial content, and a promotional video.

There are two ways that the public and restaurants can win a free marketing campaign.

1: The public can nominate their favourite restaurant/s by tagging them on social media with the hashtag #DineJoziStyleRestaurantPromotions. If they win, they will be invited to an all-expenses-paid #DineJoziStyle social media activation at a restaurant of their choice.

2: Restaurants can participate by inviting their followers to nominate them.

In addition to hosting a paid-for social media activation at the winning restaurant, JoziStyle will create a digital marketing campaign that includes an online competition, social media engagement, sponsored content, and a promotional video.

The competition is open to all Johannesburg and Pretoria based restaurants. The winning restaurant will be randomly selected from a list of all nominated restaurants.

Entries for restaurants outside of Johannesburg and Pretoria will be considered for a bonus prize. JoziStyle operates remotely so they can promote any restaurant online in South Africa. In the spirit of supporting local restaurants, JoziStyle will sponsor a meal for two people (Worth R500) at their favourite restaurant.

“JoziStyle believe in supporting local business. This has never been more important for South Africans than today. The COVID pandemic has decimated our hospitality industry and everybody is encouraged to support local business in any way possible. Spend your money, and spread the word, supporting local.

“In future, I hope to extend this project further by bringing corporate sponsors on board to create #DineJoziStyle collaborations supporting local restaurants.”Edward Chamberlain-Bell | JoziStyle

Entries close on 31 May 2021. Winners will be announced by 6 June 2021.

Top Star Drive-In: Destroyed by What Created it

However, the very thing that created the Top Star eventually destroyed it. Because the early miners had used crude methods, the Ferreira Dump—and dozens of others like it—still contained significant traces of gold. As the price of gold rose and new chemical extraction technologies (like the carbon-in-pulp process) made it profitable to “mine the waste,” the ground beneath the Top Star became more valuable than the cinema itself. In 2006, despite fierce opposition from heritage groups who argued that the dump and the drive-in were culturally significant landmarks, the projectors were turned off for the last time.

The reclamation of the dump was a staggering industrial feat. Starting in 2008, mining giant DRDGold used high-pressure water cannons to “monitor” the dump, turning 5 million tons of solid earth back into a liquid slurry. This slurry was then piped 40 kilometers across the province to a processing plant in Brakpan. By 2011, the “mountain” had completely vanished. The 50-meter-high plateau that had dominated the southern skyline for a century was reduced to a flat, dusty crater.

The disappearance of the Top Star is a poignant symbol of Johannesburg’s “extractive” nature. It is a city that consumes itself to stay alive; even its historical landmarks are subject to the fluctuating price of minerals on the London and New York stock exchanges. Today, if you drive along the M2, there is an empty space in the sky where the Top Star used to be. While the reclamation removed a source of toxic dust and “acid mine drainage,” it also erased a piece of the city’s collective memory. The land where the gold-flecked mountain once stood is now being rehabilitated for light industrial use, proving that in eGoli, even the horizon is for sale if there’s enough gold hidden inside it.
