Proteas V Bangladesh

2 November 2026 by Con Tributor

Johannesburg: The South Africa Men’s selection panel has today named a 15-player squad to face Bangladesh in the two-match Dafabet Test series later this month.

Captain Temba Bavuma, who recently led the Proteas to a gripping 2-1 series victory over Australia, will once again lead the newly-ranked number one Test side in the two-match series on the Highveld.

The first Dafabet Test will take place at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg from 15 – 19 November, followed by the second Dafabet Test at SuperSport Park in Centurion from 23 – 27 November.

Tony de Zorzi returns after recovering from the hamstring injury that ruled him out of the Test series against Australia, while DP World Lions batter Zubayr Hamza has also been included in the squad.

On the bowling front, Anrich Nortje (Hollywoodbets Dolphins) returns to the squad after being sidelined for two weeks with a groin injury. He is joined in the pace attack by Dane Paterson (YesPlay Cobras), Kagiso Rabada and all-rounders Corbin Bosch, Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder.

Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi was not considered for selection as he continues his rehabilitation.

The last time the two sides met on South African soil was in 2022, where the hosts secured a 2-0 series win.

Proteas Men’s Head Coach Shukri Conrad said: “Coming off a hard fought series against Australia, our focus will be on carrying that momentum into the Bangladesh series, which is our next big assignment of the summer.

“Traditionally, surfaces on the Highveld favours pace and bounce, although we have seen the Wanderers offer some assistance to spin in recent times. So with that in mind, there will be greater focus on our seam-bowling options.

“We know the threat Bangladesh pose and we expect their quicks to be very effective in Highveld conditions. “In terms of our batting options, it’s good to welcome Tony back following his recovery from injury, while Zubayr’s inclusion gives us further depth to our top order. “The build-up to the first Test will give us the opportunity to assess our options and settle on the best combination for the conditions.” The squad will assemble in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 11 November.

The Maboneng Precinct: Architecture

Maboneng is architecturally distinct because it rejects the “demolish and rebuild” philosophy. Instead, it embraces adaptive reuse. The Bioscope, South Africa’s only independent cinema, operates out of an old industrial space; The Living Room is a lush rooftop oasis that offers panoramic views of the skyline from atop a concrete shell; and the Museum of African Design (MOAD) was housed in a massive 1970s warehouse. This aesthetic—exposed brick, industrial steel, and vibrant street art—has become the visual shorthand for “cool” Johannesburg. The murals here are particularly significant; they aren’t just decoration but are often massive social commentaries by local and international street artists like Faith47 and ROA, turning the very walls of the city into a public gallery.

However, Maboneng is also at the center of a complex debate regarding gentrification and social integration. Critics argue that while the precinct is a “bubble” of safety and creativity, it often stands in stark contrast to the surrounding poverty of the inner city. The challenge for Maboneng has always been how to be an engine for economic growth without alienating the residents who lived there during the “dark” years. In response, many initiatives within the precinct focus on local entrepreneurship, such as the Market on Main, which provides a platform for local food vendors and designers every Sunday.
