GAUTENG – The South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Prevention Unit, working alongside Gauteng Traffic Wardens in Eldorado Park, has arrested a suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm during crime prevention operations.
On Sunday, 1 November 2026, at approximately 12:00, members were deployed across all sectors of Eldorado Park to conduct crime prevention duties. At around 21:50, they received crime intelligence-driven information regarding two Coloured males who were reportedly walking along Goud Street in Old Eldorado Park, en route to Kopper Street to purchase live ammunition.
According to the information received, one of the men was wearing a green Adidas camouflage jacket and khaki trousers and was allegedly in possession of a silver-and-black unlicensed firearm.
The members immediately proceeded to Goud Street, where they spotted two males matching the descriptions provided. They approached the men and requested permission to conduct a search.
During the search, the members recovered a silver-and-black 9mm firearm without a magazine. The firearm’s serial number had been filed off, and the suspect was unable to produce a licence authorising him to possess the firearm.
The suspect was subsequently arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and detained at Eldorado Park SAPS for further police investigation. He is expected to appear in court soon.
The Station Commander of Eldorado Park SAPS, Brigadier Maluleke, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to intensifying crime prevention operations and urged community members to report illegal firearms and criminal activities.
