The Women Who Move Us

11 August 2026 by Con Tributor

Johannesburg – In celebration of Women’s Day, GWM South Africa hosted the second edition of its Women in Motion event, bringing together customers, dealer partners, media, content creators and industry partners for an afternoon dedicated to celebrating the women who continue to inspire, lead and drive positive change.

Hosted under the theme “Women Who Move Us,” the event reflected GWM South Africa’s belief that meaningful mobility extends beyond vehicles, it’s about the people whose resilience, leadership and determination continue to shape families, businesses and communities.

Held at Summer Place in Sandhurst, the event welcomed women from diverse backgrounds to connect through shared experiences and inspiring conversations. The programme was hosted by Ursula Mariani, who guided guests through an afternoon of engaging discussions centred on leadership, resilience, personal growth and financial empowerment.

Setting the tone for the day, Charmaine Leesman, Head of Aftersales at GWM South Africa, reflected on what the “Women Who Move Us” platform means to her and the women who continue to shape it. “As women, we’re constantly balancing multiple roles while continuing to grow, lead and inspire those around us. Women Who Move Us is a reminder that every journey is different, but when we come together to share our experiences, we empower one another to keep moving forward. It’s incredibly rewarding to see this platform continue to grow and celebrate the remarkable women who make a difference every day,” said Leesman.

Now in its second year, Women in Motion has become an important expression of GWM South Africa’s commitment to celebrating the women who shape families, businesses and communities. More than an annual Women’s Day event, the initiative conveys the brand’s belief that meaningful mobility is about people and the connections that move society forward.

Continuing the conversation, guests took part in a lively panel discussion, allowing speakers and attendees to unpack shared experiences and exchange perspectives on resilience, leadership and the road ahead. Woven throughout the afternoon, Ursula Mariani dual role as both host and keynote speaker anchored the day’s conversation on “The Power to Move Others,” reinforcing the idea that leadership is less about position and more about the influence one has on those around them.

Alongside the day’s conversations, guests had the opportunity to explore a curated showcase of some of GWM’s models. The Tank 500 drew attention with its unique presence, while the P500 showcased its bold character and commanding presence. The Jolion Pro Limited Edition offered a fresh, modern perspective on daily mobility, and the ORA 5 caught the eye with its bold design. Rounding out the showcase, the Haval H6 PHEV offered a glimpse into GWM’s evolving approach to hybrid innovation and the possibilities ahead. Overall, the lineup embodied the spirit of Women in Motion; celebrating strength, individuality, and progress, both on the road and through the women who inspire us.

The Women In Motion platform continues to grow each year, and this second instalment reaffirmed GWM South Africa’s intent to build Women Who Move Us into a lasting fixture on its calendar, one that goes beyond a single day of celebration to reflect an ongoing commitment to the women driving change in their homes, businesses and communities.

The FNB Stadium: Football

The 2010 World Cup turned the FNB Stadium into a global icon. It hosted both the opening match and the final, where Spain defeated the Netherlands to claim the trophy. Perhaps most poignantly, it was the site of the “nearly” moment for African football when Ghana’s Black Stars came within a crossbar’s width of reaching the semi-finals. For Johannesburgers, the stadium is more than a soccer pitch; it is the home of the Soweto Derby, the fierce rivalry between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates that can see nearly 100,000 fans descend on the precinct in a sea of gold and black.

As of 2026, the FNB Stadium continues to be a versatile giant. It has hosted some of the world’s biggest musical acts, from U2 to Justin Bieber, and remains a primary venue for national celebrations and political rallies. It stands as a landmark of “New South Africa” architecture—rejecting the cold, European brutalism of the city’s past in favor of a design that feels earthy, indigenous, and undeniably grand. It is the one place in Johannesburg where the entire city, from the mansions of Sandton to the matchbox houses of Soweto, comes together to breathe as one.
