GAUTENG – Police have arrested three suspects following intensive investigations in a murder and hijacking incident.
The investigation follows the discovery of a woman’s body along a roadside at Nancefield in Eldorado Park on 24 August 2026. The 27-year-old deceased had sustained injuries to her upper body, and a murder and hijacking case was subsequently opened.
On 21 September 2026 at about 10:00, intelligence information led police to a scrapyard where one of the suspects aged 27 was traced at a scrapyard at Freedom Park in Eldorado Park.
Upon seeing the police, the suspect allegedly fled the scene and produced a firearm, resulting in a shootout with the police. He sustained injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard. Police recovered a .38 Special revolver with its serial number filed off and one live round.
Further intensive investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects aged 35 and 36 last night at about 19:45 at Freedom Park , bringing the total number of arrests to three. The deceased’s vehicle has not yet been recovered.
The injured suspect is expected to appear in court once he has recovered, facing charges of murder, hijacking, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The other two suspects are also expected to appear in court soon.
Police investigations are continuing.
The District Commissioner for Johannesburg Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka commended the members for their commitment and dedication in pursuing the investigation and securing the arrests.
